2010 Gold Coast Guineas Nominations

May 4th, 2010

This Saturday the second race meeting of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival is scheduled to take place at the picturesque Gold Coast Racecourse.

Two Group races highlight the programme including the $125,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) for three-year-olds.

This year the 2010 Gold Coast Guineas is sponsored by Carlton Mid and has attracted 33 nominations.

Many promising runners are hoping to gain a start in the race including the Peter Snowden-trained Launay. A winner of three of his four starts, the up-and-coming Lonhro gelding is coming off an eye-catching barrier trial over 800m at Warwick Farm.

His performance in the Gold Coast Guineas on Saturday will pave the way for the remainder of his Brisbane winter carnival campaign, already having been nominated for the Group 1 treble of the BTC Cup (1200m), the Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and the Stradbroke Handicap (1400m).

Another big name nominated for the GC Guineas is the winner of the Magic Millions 3YO trophy (1400m) back in January, Graceful Anna.

The consistent David Pfieffer-trained filly has claimed victory in five and placed in two of her seven career starts and is seeking another prestigious win to add to her already impressive $817,900 in prizmoney following her Magic Millions success.

Other local nominees include Trevor Bailey’s impressive Fastnet Rock gelding Faster Son and Eagle Farm-based More Than ready gelding Imagery.

Interstate raiders looking to outclass the locals include Bart Cumming’s last start winner of the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) Latin News and the Clarry Conners-trained Redoute’s Choice filly Fiction.

Meanwhile, in-form local trainer Gillian Heinrich, who won last Saturday’s Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm with Ghetto Blaster, is aiming for more Group race glory having nominated three runners for the Guineas.

Heinrich’s hopefuls are Falls Creek, Irish Dream and Swiss Rose.

The other feature event at the meeting is the $300,000 Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) where last start winner of the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m), Road To Rock has been nominated.

The final field of acceptances for the 2010 Gold Coast Guineas will be announced later in the week and published here.
