Beethog Wins 2010 Carlton Mid Gold Coast Guineas

May 10th, 2010

Long-priced filly Beethog claimed an upset win on Saturday when, after starting at $51, she beat home a field of classy rivals in the $125,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m).

A local runner from the Gold Coast, the Les Kelly-trained Beethog ($51) proved her black type talent when she narrowly defeated Temple Of Boom ($5) by a long neck, with the fast-finishing Fifteen Carat ($21) running strong to the line a half-head further back in third.

In the Gold Coast Guineas Beethog was successful in her first attempt at Group level

In a close top six finish, the Chris Waller-trained favourite Stryker ($4) and last year’s Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready ($12) both did well to overcome horror barrier draws and finish in a dead-heat for fourth just head back from Fifteen Carat.

Three-year-old Shovhog filly Beethog now boasts an impressive record of three wins and two placings from seven career starts for over $114,600 in prizemoney.
