The Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas will run at Gold Coast Racecourse this Saturday May 7, 2011, and the final field and barrier draw for the race has now been released.
The 2011 Gold Coast Guineas is worth $125,000 in prize money and will be run over a distance of 1,200 metres.
Open to three-year-olds only, the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas will be run under set weight conditions, with all colts and geldings carrying 56 kilograms and all fillies carrying 54 kilograms.
One of the most exciting races on the horse racing calendar, the Gold Coast Guineas will run as Race 8 on Saturday and is due to jump at 4.30pm (AEST).
21 horses have accepted to be part of the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas final field, including 16 guaranteed starters and 5 emergencies.
Included in the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas final field is Tony Gollan’s Spirit Of Boom.
Spirit Of Boom is the brother of talented sprinter Temple Of Boom, who has won seven of his 18 race starts and accrued over $540,000 in prize money.
Spirit Of Boom himself has won four of his 13 race starts, and finished second to Pressday in the Group 2 Champagne Classic last year.
The three-year-old Sequalo colt finished third in his last race start at Eagle Farm and will be looking to step up for his second-up run in the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas.
Spirit Of Boom has drawn barrier six for the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas and will be ridden by jockey Corey Brown.
John Thompson’s Run For Levi has drawn the widest barrier of the field and was allocated gate 21.
Run For Levi finished 15th in his last start in the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington and pulled up lame after the race.
The Hussonet gelding will return in full health to take on the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas final field this Saturday.
Run For Levi will be ridden by jockey Dwayne Dunn in the race and will carry the set 56 kilograms.
Trainer John Thompson was hoping for a firmer track for Run For Levi’s first-up performance in the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas.
“He’s first-up and normally takes a couple of runs to find his best form,” Thompson said.
“He’s headed to the Queensland Guineas and I’d like to see him on a firmer track.”
Also included in the 2011 Gold Coast Guineas final field is Gillian Heinrich’s Military Rose, Andrew Williamson’s Ready To Rip and Robert Heathcote’s Excellantes.
