2014 Gold Coast Guineas Final Field and Barrier Draw

April 30th, 2014

A capacity field of 16 plus five emergencies have been confirmed to line up for the 2014 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) this weekend; shaping the race as one of the most exciting and well-contested events this weekend.

Securing three wins and two places from only nine competitive starts to date, trainer Peter Snowden has accepted a position in the final field of the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas for Safeguard.

A consistent performer over six starts in the spring of 2013, Safeguard won the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) before finishing an unlucky fourth when blocked for a run in the final straight of the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) on September 7th.

While unable to figure when eleventh in the Group 1 Royal Sovereign Stakes (1200m) on day 2 of The Championships in his only appearance in 2014, Snowden is confident the Exceed And Excel colt will be far greater for the competitive run and is not worried by the allocation of the slightly wide barrier 10.

Also included in the final field for the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas is fellow Sydney raider Dothraki.

Contesting two wins and five places over eleven starts so far, Dothraki was arguably the biggest winner of all Gold Coast Guineas frontrunners at Wednesday’s barrier draw; allocated the ideal barrier 5.

Claiming the Listed Hilton Hotels and Resorts Stakes (1400m) in his final appearance in 2013, the Mossman colt produced an impressive turn of foot to finish third amongst classy company in the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) first-up on April 4th before overcoming poor position to run on for fifth in the Royal Sovereign last time out.

Confirmed to be partnered by 2014 standout jockey Nash Rawiller, Dothraki represents a particularly strong chance of success on the Gold Coast this weekend.

Disappointing when fifteenth in his only appearance in 2014 over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm, Whiskey Allround will have to overcome the unfortunate barrier 14 if any chance of delivering Queensland trainer Tony Gollan the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas title.

Scoring three wins and three places from only ten competitive starts to date, Whiskey Allround was a standout performer over his two-year-old season in 2013; claiming each of his first three starts before finishing an unlucky second in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Continuing in similarly competitive form over a short spring preparation, the All Bar One will be partnered by apprentice jockey Tegan Harrison in the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas.

Claiming two victories in only four starts this preparation alone, Londehero is offered a key opportunity to claim another impressive victory this weekend after claiming the ideal barrier 3 for the Gold Coast Guineas.

Trained at Matthew Dunn’s regional Murwillumbah stables in far-North Eastern New South Wales, Londehero is arguably one of the most exciting prospects for the 2014 Gold Coast Guineas and has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Glen Colless.

Unlucky not to claim the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) in the autumn of 2013, the Lonhro gelding has returned with a vengeance this time in, claiming his most recent victory by nearly three lengths.
