April 22nd, 2015

Returning Group 1 placed filly Traveston Girl is one of the headline final acceptors in the capacity field for Saturday’s Gold Coast Guineas 2015 on A.D. Hollindale Stakes Day in Queensland.

Kicking off the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival for another season, this weekend’s Gold Coast meet features nine races with the last being the $125,000 Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) – due to jump at 4:28pm (AEST).

A full field of three-year-olds is down to face off in the set weights clash with 16 confirmed starters and four emergencies.

Of the 16 lining-up at this stage, seven are fillies out to beat the boys including the Tony Gollan-trained duo of Traveston Girl and Feels Like Home drawn in barriers 12 and nine respectively.

Saturday will be Flying Spur filly Traveston Girls’ first run since her ace second to Amicus in Melbourne’s Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield last October, Tegan Harrison riding her first-up this weekend.

Feels Like Home meanwhile will have Jim Byrne in the saddle, the More Than Ready filly coming off a second to fellow Gold Coast Guineas rival Beau Jet at Doomben on April 11.

The other fillies in the mix are the Noel Doyle-trained local Aimee, fellow Gold Coast hop Sea Shells, Amizade for Desleigh Forster, Sydney’s Palazzo Pubblico and the Kelly Schweida-trained Miss Cover Girl.

Another headliner in the line-up, Miss Cover Girl and jockey Glen Boss have work to do from barrier 14 but her form at the Gold Coast is outstanding (4-3-0-0) and she also boasts three wins from five runs over the 1200m.

Of the boys some of the best include the Stuart Kendrick-trained Time For War, New Zealand raider Huka Eagle and Godolphin’s entry Sarajevo.

Time For War is first-up on Saturday after his third win from four resuming runs, the Coolmore Classic failure looking to return to the form that saw him beat the winner of that race Brazen Beau home in last May’s Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) at Doomben.

Tony Pike meanwhile will saddle-up Huka Eagle on the back of his third in a Group 1 back home in New Zealand, form the galloper hopes to repeat in his debut down under this Saturday.

Other notable Gold Coast Guineas 2015 final acceptors include the Brad Herne-trained Mr Cha Cha on the rails for his maiden run in over 12 months and the Team Hawkes-trained Nostradamus up from Sydney.
