Takedown has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains outright $3.40 favourite in 2016 Gold Coast Guineas betting markets ahead of Santa Ana Lane ($3.50) and local hope Sold For Song ($11).

Will Takedown justify favouritism and win the 2016 Gold Coast Guineas, or will one of his many talented rivals post an upset?

Takedown ($3.40)

Takedown is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2016 Gold Coast Guineas field and should prove very tough to beat from the ideal barrier 5, with in-form hoop Tim Clark aboard. Posting three wins and a further four minors through twelve career starts to date, the Stratum gelding resumed this time for a close second in the Listed Fireball Stakes (1100m); progressing to fourth in the Listed Darby Munro (1200m) before savaging the line for third in the talent-rich Group 2 Arrowfield Sprint (1200m) last time out on April 9th. Takedown represents terrific value at his current Gold Coast Guineas odds to win on Saturday.

Blueberry Hill ($21)

Blueberry Hill was a standout through the 2015 Winter Carnival and is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from two runs leading into the Gold Coast Guineas this time. Running a close second in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial Stakes (1200m) upon debuting to black type racing in April last year, the Myboycharlie filly savaged the line for success in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (1200m) before running second in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and sixth in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m). While yet to make much of a competitive impact this time, Blueberry Hill will relish a step up to 1200m, the conditions of the Gold Coast track and a weighting of only 55kgs.

Santa Ana Lane ($3.50)

Santa Ana Lane has posted three wins and two minors through only seven career starts so far and is sure to lay a typically great account for himself in the Gold Coast Guineas. Resuming for an impressive win in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) on February 27th, the Lope De Vega gelding failed to fire when ninth in the Darby Munro but responded well for second in the Listed South Pacific Stakes (1400m) and third in the E-Group Security BM83 (1200m) most recently.
